Jim is a founding partner of Miller Titerle LLP. Prior to establishing Miller Titerle LLP, Jim was a partner of a national law firm for approximately 30 years, and was leader of that firm's national environmental and climate change groups.

Jim practices corporate and commercial law with a particular emphasis on natural resource law, mergers and acquisitions and environmental law.

Jim has appeared in a number of publications, including editions of The Best Lawyers and the 2010 Canadian Legal L'Expert Directory, as a leading lawyer in the area of environmental law. Jim has been involved in a number of business transactions in the independent power production sector, acting for developers, purchasers and lenders regarding hydro electric and wind power projects, and in the forest industry, acting on behalf of purchasers of mills and other forestry-related assets. He also has considerable expertise in dealing with environmental issues for his clients, including identifying and pursuing opportunities relating to climate change and emissions reductions.

Jim also acts as a mediator and is a founding member of the Canadian Centre for Environmental Arbitration and Mediation (CCEAM), a referral roster of senior environmental law practitioners in Canada.

Jim has presented papers regarding environmental issues to the Canadian Institute, the Conference Board of Canada, the American Bar Association, the Inter-American Bar Association and the Continuing Legal Education Society of British Columbia.

Jim obtained his M.A. (Law) from Oxford University in 1975 as a Rhodes Scholar, and his LLB from Dalhousie in 1976. He was called to the British Columbia Bar in 1977.
